Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an emerging therapeutic approach that combines the powerful effects of ketamine, a legally prescribed medication, with professional psychotherapy to support deep emotional healing and psychological growth. Unlike traditional medications that must be taken daily, ketamine is typically administered in carefully controlled sessions, allowing for short-term but profound changes in perception, mood, and cognitive flexibility. When paired with psychotherapy, these shifts can help individuals access and process difficult emotions, memories, and patterns that may otherwise remain inaccessible.
Ketamine works differently from most antidepressants. It acts on the brain’s glutamate system, promoting neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new connections and adapt. This can lead to a rapid reduction in symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.
Many people report feeling relief within hours or days of a session, which is significantly faster than most conventional antidepressants. These changes can create a powerful opening for long-lasting emotional breakthroughs when used as part of a structured therapeutic process.
While ketamine alone may offer short-term symptom relief, combining it with therapy supports more profound transformation. Psychotherapy during and after the ketamine session helps clients integrate the insights, sensations, and emotions that arise during the experience. A trained therapist helps create a safe environment for reflection and healing, guiding clients through the process with care and intention.
This therapeutic container allows the ketamine experience to become a catalyst for meaningful, sustained change rather than a fleeting moment of relief.
KAP may be especially beneficial for individuals who have not found relief through traditional treatments. It has shown promise for those living with treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional conditions. It can also be a valuable tool for people engaged in deep personal growth or trauma recovery work.
KAP is not a quick fix, but when thoughtfully integrated into a therapeutic process, it can unlock powerful new pathways to healing.

A 60-minute session to explore whether KAP is a good fit for your needs and goals. Includes clinical assessment and treatment planning.

You’ll meet with a licensed prescriber (independent of our practice) for a medical evaluation. If appropriate, they will provide a prescription for ketamine lozenges

Conducted in a supportive in-person (Rochester, MA) or virtual setting, you’ll take your prescribed dose of ketamine and engage in an inward therapeutic experience. A trained therapist will be present to hold space, provide grounding as needed, and support your journey.

These follow-up sessions help you reflect on your ketamine experience, make meaning from it, and apply insights to your life and emotional healing.

Most clients begin with one medicine session each week, for 4 - 8 weeks, each followed by an integration session within a few days of the medicine session. Frequency is tailored based on your goals and response to treatment.

We provide you with a referral to a ketamine prescriber who will first evaluate you for Ketamine treatment.
